Henry was almost 12 years old when he joined us at the Eating School. As a baby, he would not eat purees, and mealtime became increasingly challenging. The older he got, the more selective he became in his eating. There was a great deal of stress at family meals, and his mother had to cook alternative foods for him. Since Henry participated in competitive sports, it was important that he could sustain himself sufficiently and would have enough energy for his training. He wanted to change his eating behavior, so his mother turned to NoTube. In July 2022, the two of them participated in the Eating School.
Tell us about your experience with you child’s mealtime situation (with or without a feeding tube). What was it like before, during, and after treatment? How did you feel during the program? What was difficult; what was easy? What kind of changes did you notice in your child? Share what is important to you with other parents…
Our son’s nutritional situation was very complicated since infancy. He did not want purees, and he did not want to eat any solid foods. From year to year, we painstakingly found a few foods that he would eat. He always ate enough, but the variety was always extremely limited. As a young child, he once ate nothing but raspberry yogurt for 14 days (and never again after that).
At nearly 12 years old, his food repertoire was still severely limited. He mainly ate pizza margherita, spaghetti bolognese, and French fries. Our son participates in competitive sports and came to me at 11 to say he wanted something to change. As I was seeking sources of assistance, I discovered NoTube.
We participated in the Eating School in the summer of 2022. The beginning was not easy for either of us. He was by far the oldest child, and the number of small children, many of whom cried, stressed us both in the first few days. But NoTube responded really well by assigning a 17-year-old trainee to spend extra time with our son. On the second day, my son and I both had a crisis. It felt impossible for him to eat more foods. But amazingly, on the third day, he began to try new things. All of a sudden, he had overcome the block in his mind, and thanks to Kessy and all the other therapists, he incorporated new foods into his repertoire every day.
Today, two months later, our son has not regressed at all. He eats many new foods. We no longer have to cook separately for him. And travelling, whether for sports or with his school, is easy. He is still trying new things. After nearly 12 years of mealtime stress, eating has now almost become the most normal thing in the world.
Of course there are still foods that he doesn’t like, doesn’t even want to try, but even that has become completely normal. For us, the Eating School was the best decision that we could have made. For our son, for me as Mama, and for us as a family. THANK YOU, NoTube TEAM!!!!!
And what does our son say about it?
“Was cool, was good” :-) “I’m so glad that I did it!” “Finally, no more food stress!"
